I can be childish. Just ask my wife. But when I'm most mature I can have a childlike heart. Simple. Enjoying basic things like sunshine and a cool breeze and playing with friends. Caryn had a friend over today and she brought her two year old. Being around someone else's kid is so amazing. You don't have to parent. you can just enjoy the beauty of a child.
You've got to see these pictures...
The look in a child's eyes, that innocence, that sense that the world is all being taken in at the same time. And "No, you can't have a bite of my muffin." But it's all okay. It's beautiful.
We're all children. Some of us have carefully constructed what we look like on the outside. We can easily replace playfullness with cynicism. We can easily replace exploration with pessimism. But then someone can come into our lives that loves us enough to help us grow. Friends can. Even people we see on the news or hear in a song can.
And kids can.
